According to Indian media reports on December 31, the Indian business community called on the government to take a number of measures to address economic challenges at the pre-budget meeting for the 2025-26 fiscal year, including reducing personal income tax and fuel consumption tax, and providing support for employment-intensive industries such as furniture. The delegates at the meeting particularly emphasized the impact of China's global dumping of excess inventory on the Indian market.
Sanjeev Puri, president of the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII), said that although the Indian economy has performed well overall, it faces many challenges. "China is dumping a large amount of products all over the world, including India, and the climate emergency is affecting food security and inflation levels. The situation is worrying." CII suggested that the government focus on supporting industries with great employment potential such as clothing, footwear, tourism, and furniture, and implement marginal tax rate exemptions for income below 200,000 rupees to boost consumption.
